Our Mission

The Cancer Support Community – Massachusetts South Shore (CSC-MSS) has as its mission to provide a comprehensive program of services that help people who have been impacted by cancer enhance their health and well-being through professionally led programs of emotional support and education. All our programs, which are designed to enhance the mind, body and spirit, are provided free of charge and offered in a comfortable home-like environment.

CSC-MSS is dedicated to providing these programs to people with all types of cancer and their caregivers, with the belief that they can help people maintain as high a quality of life as possible through learning how to better cope with this life-altering condition. We offer weekly on-going support groups, a caregiver support group, a men with cancer support group,  educational workshops, stress management and healthy lifestyle programs, creative art workshops, and social gatherings.

“Community” is perhaps the most important aspect of  the Cancer Support Community’s model of care and differentiates the program from any other.  Here, people impacted by cancer can come together with others who truly understand  the day-to-day, emotional and physical realities of living with a cancer diagnosis. Our participants come at the time of diagnosis, during or at the end of treatment, at the time of a recurrence or even after treatment has ended. They  learn they are not alone in their quest for physical, emotional, and/or spiritual recovery. Together, they work toward regaining a sense of control over their lives and ultimately discover that hope is a valuable tool irrespective of the type of cancer they have or stage of their disease.

Programs at CSC-MSS are offered as a complement, not an alternative, to conventional medical care.  We believe that through the combination of good medical care and on-going emotional support, people who have been diagnosed with cancer, and the people who care for and about them, give themselves the best chance to feel empowered and an active participant in their care and well-being.
